A Message from President Anthony Charles

As we approach summer and the 2018 NC-ACS / SC-ACS Joint Annual Meeting, I want to provide a progress report of the activities of the NC Chapter.

We have been very busy since we acquired the services of our new management company, Synergistic Management, in December, 2016. The Board has worked with the management team to ensure that the Chapter is compliant with all regulations for nonprofit organizations and to plan for the future. I hope you were able to join us  for the 2017 Annual Meeting last July in Pinehurst; it was a great meeting. We just had a very successful Advocacy Day and Stop the Bleed event on May 23 in Raleigh.  The North Carolina House of Representatives is currently working on legislation to provide Stop the Bleed kits and training for every public school in NC! Special thanks to Representatives Greg Murphy and Cody Henson for leading this initiative. The Chapter has made great progress during the last year.

As the new management team became involved and evaluated the financial status of the Chapter, they discovered that the previous management firm had mismanaged and misrepresented the Chapter’s funds. I am happy to report to you that the previous management firm is in the process of repaying those funds to the Chapter.  Furthermore, let me assure you that transparent processes are now in place to ensure that the Board is fully engaged and apprised of the Chapter’s compliance with State and Federal regulations for nonprofit organizations (we are fully compliant) and the financial status of the Chapter, which is healthy.

Your Board of Directors is fully committed to representing all surgeons in North Carolina with our State and Federal governments and with other healthcare related organizations in our State. We also strive to provide pertinent continuing medical education at our annual meeting each year as well as an opportunity for North Carolina surgeons to network, share ideas, have fun, and learn from each other.

The South Carolina Chapter is hosting the Joint Annual Meeting this year. I hope to see you in Myrtle Beach in July!
