ACTION ALERT – Oppose the SAVE ACT

Upcoming Meeting of the Joint Legislative Committee on Access to Healthcare and Medicaid Expansion

The NC Joint Legislative Committee on Access to Healthcare and Medicaid Expansion will have a hearing on Tuesday at 9:30 am regarding the SAVE Act:  SB 249/HB277.  This Committee is cochaired by Senator Joyce Krawiec and Representative Donny Lambeth.  Vice Chair is Representative Larry Potts and Advisory is Representative Carla Cunningham.

Below is a list of the other committee members.

If passed, the SAVE Act would expand the scope of practice for nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, clinical nurse specialists, and certified registered nurse anesthetists within the definition of “advanced practice registered nurse.”

The expanded scope of practice for APRNs would include and are not limited to:

• The management, diagnosis, and treatment of primary sexual and reproductive health care, including primary, preconception,  gynecologic/reproductive/sexual health, antepartum, intrapartum, neonatal, and post-pregnancy care.
• Ordering, performing, supervising, and interpreting diagnostic studies.
• Prescribing pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic therapies.
• Selecting, ordering, procuring, prescribing, and administering drugs and therapeutic devices to facilitate diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical procedures.

NC-ACS signed on to the NC Medical Society letter of opposition.
