Call for Nominations — NC-ACS Board of Directors 

The North Carolina Chapter of the American College of Surgeons is seeking nominations for positions on the Board of Directors.

One each for Secretary/Treasurer (Dr. Arielle Perez moved out of state creating a vacancy – must have prior Board service) and Secretary/Treasurer-Elect (must have prior Board service) and one each for the following:

  • Member at Large (currently held by Dr. Andrew Nunn and eligible for reappointment)

  • Member at Large (currently open)

  • Gynecology Liaison (currently held by Dr. Lisa Jackson-Moore and eligible for reappointment)

  • Ophthalmology Liaison (currently held by Dr. Sharon Fekrat and eligible for reappointment)

  • Orthopedic Society Liaison (currently open)

  • Urology Liaison (currently held by Dr. John Smith III and eligible for reappointment)

  • Military Representative (currently held by Lt. Col. Shaun Brown and eligible for reappointment)

To serve, a candidate must be a member of the American College of Surgeons and the NC Chapter in good standing. Responsibilities include:

  • Attending two board meetings per year. One is held each July/August in conjunction with the NC/SC combined chapter meeting. The second is held in late January or early February via ZOOM.

  • Provide a report of initiatives /activities of the specialty you represent.

  • Provide input and feedback on activities and initiatives of the chapter.

  • Assist in program development and outreach to the specific membership represented by the position.

In return, representatives have the opportunity to interact with surgical leaders in the state, develop leadership experience, and represent the organization in advocacy and public relations. The term of service is 3 years, except for the Secretary/Treasurer and Secretary/Treasurer-Elect which is one year.

Self-nominations are requested to ensure the candidate has agreed to the position. Please submit to the Nominating Committee a Curriculum Vitae along with a brief letter of interest identifying the position you seek and a description of qualifications at leah@ncfacs.org by July 6, 2025. Up to two supporting letters may accompany the nomination but are not required.
