NC-ACS Call for Abstracts Deadline Extended to May 22nd 

The 2026 Program Committee of the South Carolina & North Carolina Chapters of the American College of Surgeons is accepting abstracts for consideration for the resident paper competitions being held during the 2026 NC/SC-ACS Annual Meeting on August 14-16, 2026, at the Wild Dunes Resort, Isle of Palms, SC.

The deadline for submissions is May 22, 2026, by 11:55 pm Eastern Time.

SUBMISSION ELIGIBILITY

Three categories: Trauma, General Surgery, and Cancer.

  • All residents and research trainees enrolled in general surgery or surgical specialty residency training or fellows-in-training programs in South Carolina.

  • Medical students enrolled in a medical school in South Carolina, with an interest in surgery.

  • The entry should represent the original work done by the authors.

  • Submission of an abstract constitutes a commitment by the submitting author to be present on August 14-16, 2026, at the Wild Dunes Resort, Isle of Palms, SC, if his/her abstract is accepted.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

  • Submit the abstract using the online submission form by May 22, 2026, at 11:45 pm Eastern Time.​​​​​​​

  • Online submissions only.

  • Upload graphs or charts as directed on the abstract submission form.

When you enter your abstract, you will be asked to complete these sections:

  • Abstracts: Background, Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.

  • Case Reports: Introduction/Objective, Case Presentation, Discussion, and Conclusion.

PAPER COMPETITION

  • Trauma – Only submissions directly related to trauma surgery will be considered.  Submissions related to acute care surgery and/or emergency general surgery should be submitted in the General/Specialty Surgery Competition. Only resident and fellows-in-training submissions are eligible to advance to the COT Region IV competition. Military cannot submit to the Chapter; must submit to ACS COT Military Region XIII. Deadline is May 22, 2026.

  • Cancer – The topic must be specific to oncology. Deadline is May 22, 2026.

  • General/Specialty Surgery – The topics have been expanded to include general and specialty surgery. Deadline is May 22, 2026.
